Contemporary Chandeliers - Classic Style Adapted to Your Modern Home Decor
Chandeliers have been used for lighting for many hundreds of years, long before gas and then electricity, plus cheap glass and other materials, transformed the lighting scene forever.
Of necessity, original chandeliers were quite simple, and required candles for the lighting. Today's contemporary chandeliers can be much more elaborate than the old chandeliers you may have seen in a monestery, but some contemporary designs lean towards the simplicity of old.

Modern chandeliers allow us considerable variety of choice, including in the type of material used to form the basic design. Antler Chandeliers, Wrought Iron Chandeliers and Crystal Chandeliers are all popular, as are fruit, floral and brass chandeliers.
Choosing a contemporary chandelier can be an extensive task, especially at online lighting stores where the choice is so large. We cannot begin to cover the full range of options that may be available to you, and much will depend on the overall design of your interior decor.
Even so, the three examples pictured cover a wide spectrum of chandelier designs. The first chandelier pictured (top left) is part of the Amhurst family from Quoizel Lighting, and comes with a sleek contemporary silver finish. The simple design may be based on a classic chandelier 3 tier array, but the overall effect is modern, with the opaque glass and scalloped shades giving this chandelier a country feel.
The middle picture is a simple black chandelier, part of the CandleAria range by Justice Design Lighting. Although contemporary, this chandelier does conjure images of the ancient candle chandeliers from the Middle Ages.
The final picture takes us upmarket to the Deluxe family of contemporary chandeliers from Quoizel Lighting. Made of solid brass with a chrome finish, and using 20% lead crystals, this chandelier adds a touch of luxury to a modern decor, yet recalls some earlier designs in the mid 20th century.
